"I Believe in chiropractic"

"I Believe in chiropractic"-everytime I hear that phrase I groan to myself. It's almost like some people think that if they don't say that I will suddently start to lose my mojo, become transparent and cease to exist.
The truth is, chiropractic works whether you belive in it or not! While its nice to be accepted, I don't feel that I need anyone's validation of my profession for me to feel good about myself.
My mission is to tell people that there is a way to be healthier without the use of drugs or surgery, that God planted in us an inborn ability to maintain and repair this body.

Hey doc, how should I sleep?

Patients always ask me which poistion they should sleep in. I wrote an article about it a while ago and I guess it's time to re-publish it. Our readership is growing and some of you may have never read it before.
What's the best way to sleep?
My patients usually ask me -“What is the best way to sleep?” to which I always answer: “Well, what position do you sleep in?” The reason for this reply is that just be modifying a couple of things here and there, you can get a restful and comfortable night’s rest no matter what position you actually sleep in.
Back Sleepers
Yes, this is actually the preferred position to sleep because it places the least amount of stress to your spine-IF you:
Place a cervical roll or rolled-up towel under your neck. Make sure that your head is in a neutral position (that you are neither looking up or down). If you find that you cannot be “in neutral” then you need a smaller roll.
Place a pillow under your knees-This takes stress off
of your lower back. You could buy a special pillow for this, but a
regular pillow works just fine.
Side Sleepers
-If you sleep on your side, then follow these tips to minimize the
amount of stress to your spine.
Use a cervical pillow-Ideally, the pillow should take into account how wide your shoulders are-the wider your shoulders, the taller the pillow should be. This is because you want to keep your neck in a neutral position.Place a pillow between your knees. Not only will this feel more comfortable, if you have hip joint pain-this definitely helps.Try not to sleep on your side with your arm up over your head-this causes stress on the nerves that come out of the neck and into the arms and cause tingling or numbness down the arms.
Sleep on your Belly-
This position places the most stress on your neck.
In this position you have your head turned to one side or the other for hours at a time. This is quite stressful to your neck muscles and joints.
Your body will try to shift your position to compensate. This is why people who toss and turn the most are belly sleepers.
To sleep more comfortably(belly sleepers):
Place a pillow under your waist, and do not use a pillow for your head.
Remember that there are other variables that will affect the quality of your sleep, like the condition and firmness of your mattress. If your mattress is too old it will sag and not provide enough support.
Avoid super-soft mattresses-they may feel comfortable at the
beginning, but in the mornings, the lack of support will make you feel sore. Your mattress should be firm, but not hard to provide the adequate support.
As with anything, if any of these recommendations cause you increased pain, consult your chiropractor-there may be other factors present that should be checked by a professional.

Fluoride in bottled water!
Today when I was at the supermarket I was surprised to see that they had fluoridated water for sale in jugs. Seems to me that if you go through the trouble to buy bottled water you would want something that is healthy and is not going to harm you.
Apparently not too many people are informed about what fluoride does and the effects it can have. Check out some of these facts:
* Almost all of western Europe has rejected water fluoridation.
* Fluoride's primary 'benefits' are topical, not systemic. There is no need to swallow fluoride.
* Children are receiving too much fluoride today. There is a need to reduce, not increase, current exposures.
* A growing body of evidence indicates that water fluoridation is ineffective and unnecessary.
* The fluoride chemical added to water is an unprocessed, industrial waste-product from the pollution scrubbers of the phosphate fertilizer industry.
* Just as fluoride can damage cells in developing teeth, fluoride can damage cells in other organs as well.
* Two-thirds of US communities, when given the chance to vote, have voted against fluoridation. Over 70 US communities have rejected water fluoridation since 1999.

Vitamin D and epidemics

I just read a very interesting article on Vitamin D. The writer says the lack of Vitamin D in the wintertime is what makes us prone to sickness in winter.
I have saved the article for you. Here is the link:

Busy week
Today is the end of a busy week. We had a bunch of new patients come in from the event last week. This week also had some downers - legal issues with my previous employers.
Anyway, today after the last patient, I had to book it to Cartersville so i could make in in time to my daughters' birthday party. Chloe turns 8 and Audrey turns 5 ! Their birthdays fall four days apart, so we usually celebrate it on the closest Saturday.
The party was held at their gymnastics gym-they all had a great time!

Quick recovery from trauma
The other day I had a patient in my office who had been involved in an auto accident. This person was explaining to me what happened in the wreck, when suddenly, this person started shaking and crying just from THINKING about the trauma experienced.
Having seen this before, I asked the person to lie down on the table and performed a BEST Technique adjustment. Within minutes, this person could recall the accident and not re-experience the trauma suffered.
To this day, this stuff still amazes me.

A great success!

Our grand opening celebration was agreat success! There was plenty of food and fun.
Dr Javier Hung and Dr. Juan Rodriguez were "recruited" to help out . They are old friends from school, and I told them they"owed" me and it was time to pay up.
Seriously, though-we sincerely thank everyone that made the event possible.
We checked many spines and made the city of Dalton aware of our new location-mission accomplished!

Spinach is bad for you?

There was apparently e-coli in some bagged spinach and made 20 people sick in the Midwest.
Have you ever wondered why there are people who get exposed to a certain bacteria but don't get sick?
Their immune systems seem to work better.
You can get your immune system in better shape by getting chiropractic adjustments, taking probiotic supplements and not using unnecessary antibiotics.

A New Baby

A very sweet thing happened today at the office-a couple whom I hadn't seen for over a year stopped in to say hello. They had with them a baby. The couple had been trying to get pregnant for years, with no results. They tried fertility drugs, in-vitro fertilization, but nothing worked.
My patient said that after their first child was born, they were ready for another-they tried for over fifteen years!
They thanked me for making that possible. (I didn't take the credit)
What is amazing to me is that something as simple as a chiropractic adjustment can have such a powerful effect by freeing the nerves and allowing the life-force to flow freely.
Do you have areas where the life-force is blocked?

Longevity
In this article researchers found that where you live does affect your expected rate of longevity. What was surprising to these researchers was that higher-income did not necessarily mean that there would be an increased life expectancy.
Reasearchers and medical doctors usually blame lack of access to doctors and hospitals to lower death rates and higher life expectancy.
Could it be that these lower income people don't have as much access to high-risk elective surgery and drugs without dangerous side effects?
There are studies that show that in places where doctors have gone on strike-the death rate has actually gone DOWN for that period.
Medical mistakes in this country kill over 186,000 people in the United States every year.
The medical establishment will never look at these statistics from that angle, but maybe you should.

Angina and Chiropractic

There was a recent study in Denmark where patients with cervico-thoracic angina (CTA) were given chiropractic adjustments.
75 percent of the participants who underwent chiropractic care reported an improvement in pain versus 25 percent of those who did not receive chiropractic.
This study was small, but it does show that chiropractic helps with other things beside s back pain.

We successfully (i think) moved our blog back to the domain healthfultips.com. We are also going to shift from just reposting articles to actually commenting on them.
If you want to see some other changes in the way that we operate this blog, let us know-this is a developing matter and we will try to incorporate some of your comments.

Go ahead, eat those eggs!
True or false, eggs are ticking time bombs of artery clogging cholesterol that should never be eaten?
The statement is FALSE. Organic eggs can be a very healthy food choice when eaten in moderation. Did you know that the human body actually needs cholesterol for healthy cell function? In 1994 Dr. Harlan Krumholz of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University conducted a study that found people with low cholesterol died twice as often from a heart attack as did people with a high cholesterol level. Even more intriguing is that cholesterol has been found to protect against a wide range of infections. Apparently cholesterol isn’t as bad as we once thought it to be.
So why does cholesterol have a bad reputation? For starters, pharmaceutical companies are making millions by pushing the sale of “cholesterol lowering” drugs. Do you think these companies want to promote the benefits of cholesterol? Of course not, they’d loose huge fortunes if Americans believed that cholesterol was part of a healthy diet and lifestyle. Their advertising and lobbying ensure that we, the American public, only hear the negative half-truths they want us to hear.
Another reason cholesterol has been frowned upon over past decades is due to a medical misconception. When doctors examine a patient with clogged arteries, medical professionals literally “see” cholesterol, and therefore they name cholesterol as the culprit. What doctors don’t see is the unhealthy foods their patient has been eating for years and years. Many people with high cholesterol are eating a diet high in sugar and trans fat-based foods (think processed, pre-packaged foods) that can negatively alter the way other nutrients—such as cholesterol—are absorbed into the body. This is serious, if you’re eating foods high in sugar and transfat, it can lead to health-complicating issues including ADHD and heart problems.
Here’s an example of what I’m talking about:
According to a medical account published in “Dr. Bob’s Trans Fat Survival Guide” a man was diagnosed with high cholesterol. For twenty years he did not eat eggs or other foods associated with cholesterol, yet his cholesterol level would not decline. Frustrated with battling the dangers of high cholesterol and prescription medication for two decades, the man decided to try a different treatment. He made some simple changes to his diet—added more organic vegetables and fruits—and he started to avoid sugar, trans fatty foods and dairy products. Within six months of changing his eating habits his cholesterol plummeted down to a healthy count of 200 and he no longer needed to take cholesterol medication!
Eating a healthy diet holds an immense amount of power that directly controls your health, longevity and quality of life. You control that power. Get all the facts and start eating a healthy diet filled with healthy foods that include, you guessed it, organic eggs.
