Eniva Vibe: Highest ORAC rating

Eniva Vibe: VIBE™ is listed in the PDR (Physicians’ Desk Reference) as having the highest certified Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) rating.

The development of ENIVA VIBE™ has been years in the making. The pioneer of water-soluble nutrient delivery technology - the Eniva Corporation - offers VIBE as the benchmark by which other liquid nutritional supplements are measured. The success of the company's line of potent, water-soluble nutrients has helped millions of people and has laid the foundation for the development of ENIVA VIBE.

High ORAC Score: Short for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, ORAC is an analysis that measures the total antioxidant power of foods and other substances. It indicates the amount of dangerous free radicals an antioxidant can "absorb" or neutralize. Scientific findings from the USDA suggest that eating plenty of high-ORAC fruits and vegetables may help slow the aging process in the body and brain. Eniva's VIBE has one of the highest ORAC scores on the market derived from natural fruits, vegetables, and botanical sources.

Antidepressants post risk for newborns

Reports published in the beginning of February 2006 found that women who take Prozac, a common antidepressant drug, during the second half of their pregnancy are about six times more likely to give birth to a baby with a rare, but potentially fatal, heart and lung condition.

The FDA held a news conference on February 8, 2006 and is expecting to issue a public health advisory based on the finding. According to reports, the FDA is also considering asking the drug's maker to add warning labels to the antidepressant's packaging.

What’s even more troubling is that a 1996 report concluded that researchers had found evidence that antidepressants could cause fetal damage—-yet the drug industry pushed these pills anyway.

The antidepressants in question are called SSRIs, or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. They include the drugs: citalopram, fluoxetine, paroxetine and sertraline, which are sold under 19 brand names including Celexa, Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft.

Babies born with the lung disorder Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH), often require mechanical assistance to breathe. Between 10 percent and 20 percent of these newborns will die soon after birth, while others will have developmental delays, hearing loss and brain abnormalities.

As time goes on it appears that the drug industry is delivering more harm than good to depression suffers and their families. It's clear--happiness and health can not be found in a pill. The answer that so many people are looking for is simple--take responsibility for your own health. Stay informed and take care of yourself through regular chiropractic care, a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Ginkgo Biloba May Ease Multiple Sclerosis Symptoms

Abstracted by Susan Sweeny Johnson, PhD, Biochem, April 7, 2006. from Susan K. Johnson, PhD, Bruce J. Diamond, PhD, Sara Rausch, MS, Michael Kaufman, MD, Samuel C. Shiflett, PhD, and Linda Graves, MD , THE EFFECT OF GINKGO BILOBA ON FUNCTIONAL MEASURES IN MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS: A PILOT RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL. Explore January 2006; Vol. 2, No. 1:19-24.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease that progressively breaks down the protective sheath around nerve cells resulting in pain, lack of coordination, lack of strength, poorer thought processes and loss of sensation.1 Ginko Biloba has been used for a long time to treat memory and concentration problems as well as depression.(2-4) It is known to have antioxidant and anti-coagulant properties, to increase blood flow, and to enhance neurotransmitter activity.5

Because MS patients tend to exhibit memory problems, anxiety, depression and fatigue, twenty-one clinically diagnosed MS patients were involved in this pilot randomized, double-blind study where half were given 240 milligrams a day of a standardized ginko extract* and half were given a placebo.

All participants were given five different surveys commonly used to assess MS symptoms before the trial and after four weeks of treatment to see whether the following symptoms improved or not: fatigue, depression, anxiety, physical function and social function, and brain and nerve function.

Initial analysis showed that both the placebo and ginko groups had some symptom improvement in some of the above areas but the difference in the areas of improvement between the two groups was not statistically significant. When the data was corrected to eliminate people who tend to respond negatively, symptom improvement in the ginko group was significantly greater than in the placebo group. In addition, when the results were reported to take into account the amount of improvement of each symptom, the ginko group improved significantly more than the placebo group in the tests for brain and nerve function and physical and social function. (The researchers claimed that fatigue was also improved but this was not evident to me from the data.)

The researchers suggest that ginko can have a beneficial effect for many MS patients but a larger study controlling for people who respond negatively to ginko supplementation should be done.

* EGb 761, the ginkgo extract used in this study, is standardized to 24% ginkgo-flavone glycosides and 6% terpenoids, and the major constituents (ie, >0.1%) are flavonolmonoglycosides (eg, quercetin-3-0-glucoside, quercetin-3-0-rhamnoside, and 3’-0-methylmyricetin-3-0-glucoside), flavonol diglycosides, flavonol triglycosides, coumaric esters of flavonol ginkgolide A, ginkgolide B, ginkgolide C, ginkgolide J), organic acids, and steroids.5

Should you have back surgery?

A study published in the health journal Spine reports that patients who have had lower back surgery are likely to continue to experience problems, and in some cases, require a second surgery.

A total of 109 patients who had surgery on their herniated discs were tracked up to 20 years after their operation. 36 percent of these patients reported unsatisfactory results during the follow-up period. More than 25 percent of these patients continued to experience leg and/or back pain, with 7.3 percent requiring a second surgery.

In sharp contrast, the New England Journal of Medicine reported that patients suffering from low back pain were much more satisfied with the results provided by chiropractic adjustment than patients who sought the help of medical doctors.

Back pain can be a seriously debilitating affliction. For many people, chiropractic care is a time-tested method that can reduce—even eliminate—the pain and discomfort of back problems. At the first sign of discomfort, schedule a chiropractic adjustment and give your body the opportunity to heal itself naturally, before you consider drug or invasive procedures.
